Reflexology

What is Reflexology?

The origins of Reflexology go back thousands of years. Reflexology is based on the belief that each part of the body is interconnected through the nervous system, to the hands and feet. By stimulating reflex points on the hands or feet, the Reflexologist can encourage the flow of nutrients, blood and lymphatic fluid to poorly functioning areas of the body. This can help restore the body’s natural equilibrium and so encourage healing.

What are the benefits?

Reflexology has been well researched and shown to be effective for many conditions. The benefits of reflexology include:
Relaxation and stress relief
Reduction in pain
Improved circulation
Aids post-operative recovery
Relief from stress-related conditions
Improved psychological health

Who can benefit?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and is appropriate for use in a range of acute and chronic conditions as well as being an enjoyable and relaxing therapy.

What to expect during a treatment

A consultation is carried out to check suitability for treatment and the treatment is carried out on a therapy couch.  There are blankets and pillows to ensure that you are warm and comfortable.  The feet are cleansed and a reflexology wax applied to reduce friction ( the treatment can be performed with fragrance free products for those with sensitive skin).  During the reflexology treatment specific therapeutic massage techniques are used on the feet, and the treatment concludes with a relaxing foot massage.

Treatment Options
Foot reflexology is the traditional form of reflexology
Hand reflexology is available for those who do not like their feet being touched or have a foot injury or condition. The reflexes on the feet can all be found on the hands and this treatment can be added on to a foot reflexology for a truly relaxing experience.
Reflexology for pre-conception and pregnancy is a specialised treatment using specific techniques on the reproductive reflexes of the feet.  Suitable for both partners.
Hot Stones can be combined with the reflexology treatment: the stones are used to warm and massage the feet and lower legs and also to work the reflexes on the feet
